How Are Items Placed
Topshop Listings
Products on Topshop are displayed using Shopify’s Search & Discovery app, which determines product placement and recommendations. Topshop does not control or influence the personalisation algorithm.
Personalisation criteria
Shopify may personalise your experience based on:
-
Your browsing and shopping history (e.g., items viewed, added to cart, purchased)
-
Collections and product tags configured in Shopify
-
General popularity and sales performance of products
-
Inventory levels and availability of major sizes
Personalisation is designed to improve relevance by showing products most likely to match your interests.
Main product listing pages and search results
Products are ranked according to Shopify’s algorithm, which uses:
-
For users who are not logged in:
a. Best-selling products in your region
b. New arrivals
c. Products with strong stock availability -
For logged-in users:
a. Recent product views
b. Items added to cart or purchased
c. Saved items
Shopify also prioritises products based on inventory and merchandising rules set within its platform.
Other sections (New Arrivals, Sale Pages, Carousels)
These follow Shopify’s standard logic:
-
New Arrivals: Listed by date (newest first), adjusted by popularity and size availability.
-
Sale Pages: Ranked by discount level, stock availability, and relevance to browsing history.
-
Carousels and recommendations (“You May Like”, “Shop the Look”): Powered by Shopify’s recommendation engine using similarity scores and customer behaviour patterns.
Additional information
Shopify may run tests or update algorithms to improve personalisation. Low-stock items may be removed or downgraded in listings.
