We all know that being creative and thinking outside the box for your Halloween costume can be really fun, but sometimes, the classics also go a long way. So if you’d rather be a witch than your favourite TV character of 2020, there are plenty of ways you can still take your fancy dress from basic to brilliant. The key is adding little on-trend fashion twists here and there that will elevate your look and assure you can still wear any new pieces you buy for your costume after spooky season is over. Here’s what we’re thinking…
This is what we like to call the ‘glampire’ – a glammed up version of a Vampire, of course. Black lace, velvet and vinyl should be your go-to if you want to give it a fashion element this year. Then, simply add some trending accessories, a coat of blood-red lipstick, fangs and you’ll be ready to go.
If we go by what we’ve seen in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, contemporary witches are incredibly stylish. To get the look, go for coated black jeans worn with a corset top and prairie blouse to make it even more modern and magical.
3. Fortune Teller
If you’ve decided to go as a fortune teller, we definitely see a great costume in your future. It might be a classic, but what’s new this time are the colours: rusty reds and shiny dark greens on velvet. Complete the look with some mystical accessories, gold eyeshadow and a deck of tarot cards or a crystal ball.
This one is always a great last minute option, because all you need is an eclectic mix of metallics, leather and some badass silver jewellery. Feel like a true rockstar by adding some studded buckle boots, pick up a Joan Jett inspired wig and all your friends will be jealous of how effortlessly cool you look.
Cowgirl is another quick and easy, yet all the more effective costume you can pull together at the last minute. Simply throw on all your Western-inspired pieces (think fringe, buckles and checks), add a cowboy hat and some denim and you’re good to go.
